SNL 40

Saturday Night Live’s best music skits

The iconic Saturday Night Live had their 40th anniversary Sunday night, and it was pretty great. The two and a half hour show was awkward in parts (sorry, Eddie), but one of the highlights of the night was when Martin Short was joined on stage by Maya Rudolph’s Beyonce. The two explored the great music skits of the past 40 years. They visited fan favourites Garth and Kat, the Blues Brothers, and Marty Culp with his wife Bobbi Mohan-Culp.

That is only the top of what SNL has done over the past 40 years. My personal favourite was always Kristen Wiig as the girl with small hands on the Lawrence Welk Show.

What a cutie.

What a cutie.

Steve Martin’s King Tut bit was brief, and the Blue Brothers will never be the same without John, but there have always been great music skits on SNL. It was definitely fun to revisit them.

Here is “Martonce’s” bit if you missed Sunday night’s show (or just couldn’t be bothered with the entire show):

The show was actually a nice reminder that even Adam Sandler could be funny.
